LTO-6 tape
LTO-6 was released in 2012 and introduced the 2.5:1 compression ratio used by every generation since. It is no longer the choice for new systems, but many organisations still run LTO-6 drives and autoloaders, or keep LTO-6 archives that need occasional access. We continue to supply LTO-6 cartridges while manufacturer stock lasts.
We are a UK company supplying LTO-6 to customers in the UK and internationally. Call 01256 331614 to check current availability.
LTO-6 specifications
Compatibility
- An LTO-6 drive reads and writes LTO-6 and LTO-5, and reads LTO-4.
- An LTO-7 drive reads and writes LTO-6.
- LTO-8 and newer drives cannot read LTO-6 cartridges.
Moving on from LTO-6
If your LTO-6 drives or autoloader are reaching end of support, we can help you plan a move to LTO-9 or LTO-10. A single LTO-9 cartridge holds as much as seven LTO-6 cartridges, and an LTO-10 40TB cartridge as much as sixteen, so a migration usually frees up a lot of shelf and library space.
We will check current stock or suggest a migration path that keeps your archive readable.
